I think the same thing every time reading this otherwise-excellent post. I don't think we should attempt to erase history, but it is super jarring, at least for me. Was it ever actually funny?
- stormdennis 6y agoIs there somewhere you can check what is or isn't funny?
- pfarrell 6y agoEverybody nowadays is inplementing HumorSensorFactoryFactory to define their own rules for what’s inbounds.
- ivalm 6y agoNo, real people use EmotionSensorFactoryFactoryFactory. Why limit yourself only to HumorSensorFactory objects?
- ljm 6y agoYou really need the MaybeEmotionSensorFactoryFactoryFactory to avoid getting NullPointerExceptions when applying to psychopaths. An AbstractEmotionSensorSensorFactory would be required to unwrap that.
- goatlover 6y agoJava really did a number on the respectability of OOP, but at least it's good for learning and laughs.
- newsbinator 6y agoThere is, but the spec changes every 3 ~ 12 months, so you have to keep rechecking and going back to edit.
- danielscrubs 6y agoI think it depends on how absurd you think it is. But it is in line with the absurdity of a factory factory and adds to the setting of "why would a developer ever extend the tool to that?" that is at least a common thought for me. But I recently saw "Dont Fck With Cats" on Netflix and if had been a joke about animals I'd also been jared (because in my mind it would no longer be absurd). So I guess it depends on what media makes us fearful off right now.
- mrweasel 6y agoI still think it’s funny and I’m sure that many people still do, even if they won’t admit it. You don’t have to be a bad person to have a dark sense of humor and you don’t have hate women to find the joke in the hammer factory story funny.
- epr 6y agoJust read this to my non-programmer girlfriend and she could barely stop laughing, especially at the ex-girlfriend jokes. I really feel sorry for all the people over-analyzing these things. Like, do you think the author ever killed his ex-girlfriend? Do you think he even knows anyone who killed their ex-girlfriend? It's a joke!
