Bald Eagle Population – The Benefit(?) Of Landfills
- araes 6y agoSeattle has in interesting issue. Too many bald eagles. To the point of annoyance. “The eagle population has exploded in the last five years, and why? Because they have a free lunch at the dump.” "Up to 200 bald eagles frequent King County’s only landfill..." At first, surprise. Then, so much sense. Relatively safe, forested area; opportunistic; access to stable food supply. Note (Wikipedia). "by the 1950s there were only 412 nesting pairs in the 48 contiguous states of the US." "In Washington State, there were only 105 occupied nests in 1980." There are now 200 eagles just at the Seattle dump.
