Blender 3D: Noob to Pro, free ebook
- xd 16y agoYou can even run blender games in the browser these days: http://geta3d.com/ http://geta3d.com/
- Keyframe 16y agoHuh, never knew about this. Thanks!
- Alex3917 16y agoMore like noob to slightly less noob. The book has been stuck at only 25% finished for around five years now. In fact it's basically completely out of date by this point anyway.
- robin_reala 16y agoI’ve always wanted to learn Blender for simple stuff, but as it’s not my day-to-day I’ve never found time to do a deep dive. If this tutorial isn’t up to date do you have any other suggestions on how to get started?
- Alex3917 16y agoNot sure. You might still be able to follow it through the first few lessons. The issue is that the UI has completely changed as well as even much of the basic functionality. Basically I remember using this tutorial when I was a sophomore in college, and it's now been three years since I've graduated. In that time blender has become an entirely different program, but only a couple paragraphs have been added to this tutorial.
- cx01 16y agoThere's a set of video lectures, which seem to be pretty up-to-date: http://gryllus.net/Blender/3D.html http://gryllus.net/Blender/3D.html
- robin_reala 16y agoGreat, thanks! I’ll have a look through these.
- felixthehat 16y agoI had a slow job for a year, so I bought Essential Blender and went through it chapter by chapter when bored, I'm no expert but I can now model reasonably well - you can also read it free online here http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.4/Books/Essential_Blender http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.4/Books/Essential_Bl... - but yeah it's 2.49 focussed, and the new 2.5 is considerably better/different - here's something I modelled after a month or so http://www.blackspike.com/site/3d/technics-1210-3d http://www.blackspike.com/site/3d/technics-1210-3d
- rcamera 16y agoIt certainly isn't completely out of date... Most of what changed in 2.5 was the UI, all the tools are there, only a couple changed names, and you can search for them using the space bar. So no, this is still a very good resource, especially if you jump to #blender channel in freenode IRC, if you can't find something that changed in 2.5. It also has improved alot from 5 years ago, in my opinion, but sure, there is still alot to be done.
- Xurinos 16y agoHaving recently used this book, I have to agree; it is still pretty valid. You have to be mindful of which UI you are looking at, but others running into similar problems made notes on the wikibook.
- steauengeglase 16y agoI've had this problem with almost ever pre-2.5 resource. On the plus side, the UI is a tad bit more intuitive, so what would have taken a half hour to find is now just a trip to the bathroom and the inevitable "Oh wait, I bet it's under XYZ, DUH!" moment.
- joeld42 16y agoI've been trying to move my own pipeline from maya to blender and this has been a great resource.
