I was tempted to say "Spoken like a true Chris", but then I realized that no true Chris would really say something like that. Here's what I think you didn't get from the OP's story: there's a hell of a lot of creativity in what Chris does. Steve and Chris work on different levels, that's all.
Yes, Steve's job is flashier, it makes spectators go "whoa" and "ooh" and "aah". But all the fine touches and important details that make the final solution so great are Chris's work. And if you think there's no creativity involved in finding those solutions, you've got another think coming...
