I much prefer AppImage, just recently I created one that packaged an old windows game and included the required dependencies (wine, libopenal, etc). Starting the AppImage is as simple as "./game.AppImage" and in theory would work on any Linux distribution. I think it has good potential for preservation of old applications and video games. AppImage is awesome.
