But in 5+ years of funding, they specifically did not contribute to the prevention of any pandemic, and the worst pandemic in a century started right under their noses. Given this, and the fact that most of the money goes to Chinese researchers on efforts that the Chinese should be paying for on their own, makes this a natural choice.
