How long do you need a transitional technology to last? A mild hybrid might not get you all excited, and probably won't be the #1 mode of personal transport in 1000 years, but is still is a solid choice for many of us today.
- adrianN 6y agoWhy is it a solid choice? To me it seems mild hybrids are primarily means for grabbing government subsidies for electric car development without having to do much technical development, but I'm not very informed about cars.
- bittercynic 6y agoIt's a solid choice because you can get a good used prius for under $10K that will get 50mpg and last for many years without requiring expensive repairs. If you don't mind dealing with some repairs you can get one for much less than that. If cost is no object and you want to optimize fro avoiding fossil fuel use it is not the best, but for most of us who do need to consider cost, it's very hard to beat mild hybrids.
