Its a tough thing to study but I'm not sure the definition of verbosity is particularly good. >size of the clean (i.e. no comments, normalized white space) GZip’d program source code, in bytes. Some languages idiomatically use comments and white space to aid readability whereas others use more verbose function and variable naming. Gzip will also encode patterns that could be very verbose (switch statements, unrolled loops, functions with same prefixes...) into very few bytes
