- keiferski 6y agoI said intelligent conversation. Nowhere did I say this person is unintelligent. I’m also struggling to find a coherent argument or disagreement in the comment I replied to, so no, I don’t have an issue with people disagreeing with me.
- nate_meurer 6y agoLet me help. You disparaged a guy's speech because he uses too many f-words for punctuation and emphasis than what you find acceptable, declared his work idiotic, ascribed completely made-up motivations to him ("gain attention by swearing"), and bemoaned the fact that mainstream media won't just ignore him. All in the space of two sentences. My argument is that you're behaving like a tendentious grump. Every form of expression -- silly or serious -- is subject to being declared vulgar and unnecessary by self-important grumps. Random examples given, others are easy to find. Eventually you might find yourself arguing with another grump over some art or expression that you enjoy. Unless, of course, you just don't really enjoy anything.
- keiferski 6y agoI compared the YouTube series to a well-known movie, Idiocracy, which features a lot of pointless swearing and other things considered vulgar by any definition of the word. I then noted that when the media covers and celebrates content like this cooking channel (which clearly derives some of its brand from a ‘edgy’ tone), it becomes more popular and acceptable, which then leads to people like Donald Trump getting elected. Had the media simply ignored him, his behavior wouldn’t have been normalized and he wouldn’t be president. Again, the normalization of this behavior has consequences in a democracy. This is a pretty deep topic with considerable philosophical debate behind it. However, you don’t seem capable of rationally discussing this without resorting to X is bullshit (not an argument) or childish name calling, so I’m gonna go ahead and end the conversation now.
- nate_meurer 6y agoYeah, even when it's true.
