Anecdotelly, in Europe the countries worst hit by the virus have the most strict confinement: Italy, Spain and France.
Makes you wonder if there is a correlation to Vitamin D insufficiency due to lack of sun light.
- namdnay 6y agoYou’ve got the causality the wrong way round
- aardvark291 6y agoYeah, and Italy, Spain, and France are some of the sunnier countries in Europe (compared to Germany, UK, Belgium, Scandinavia, etc). If anything I would expect vitamin D deficiency to be less common there.
- lawlessone 6y agoDiet seems to be the issue.
- tdeck 6y agoDon't forget Ecuador which is literally on the equator and experiencing a major outbreak.
- namdnay 6y agoIt's the wet season in Ecuador
- namdnay 6y agoI don't know about Spain, but in both Italy and France the regions most affected are the northern overcast places. The impact around the Med is much smaller, despite much much more retirees
- _ph_ 6y agoThe confinement came after the virus hit them badly, not the other way around. So the confinement certainly didn't cause the virus outbreak.
- jonny_eh 6y agoItaly was hit hard before they locked down.
- lawlessone 6y agoThe study mentions that Italy and Spain had high levels of deficiency before this hit.
- Darmody 6y agoWe had enough (more than enough, actually) sun this past winter here. The lock down happened after the virus hit us hard so your comment doesn't make much sense. Anyway, we have VDI too even with our sunny weather. Not everybody likes sunbathing and the use of sunscreen with a high SPF is common.
