Well yes - there was a civil war! And more recently, the national guard was used to enforce school integration. Things have been much more antagonistic between the federal government and the states at times in the past.
- gkop 6y agoFor others curious, while the National Guard is a joint state-federal organization, the feds took control to enforce integration against the orders of the Arkansas governor: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkansas_National_Guard_and_the_integration_of_Central_High_School https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkansas_National_Guard_and_...
- oarabbus_ 6y ago>Well yes - there was a civil war! Hah, this really puts it into perspective. Despite how bad things are now, it's not 1865.
- kaesar14 6y agoDon't know why this is downvoted, a Civil War would objectively be worse than this.
- RonanTheGrey 6y agoIn the years leading up to the Civil War, the states often passed bills specifically intended to hurt each other, and the Federal government passed laws intended to economically harm the south. It was a complete shitshow. Today's politics are positively gentrified by comparison.
