Abuse potential notwithstanding, and ignoring the complete distortion of "reality" coming soon, I'm extremely excited for this technology to become more mainstream. Being able to edit audio and video, like you edit a word document. Record a conversation for a couple hours, compile the transcript, and synthesize it into something tight, all without the need for a traditional video editor. Voice synthesis for words that werent spoken, or misspoken, frame interpolation and morphing to prevent the jaggy youtube cutting effect.
- randylahey 7y agoA YouTuber (carykh) made a video where he explains an algorithm he made to automatically process lecture videos by speeding up, condensing and removing parts of the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ8orIurGxw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ8orIurGxw
- AlexAffe 7y agooh. my. god. This is about to change... a lot of things. Stop motion by clapping totally has me.
- MiguelHudnandez 7y agoI was surprised to find carykh's video is over a year old now! This has so many applications, I'm surprised it's not already common.
- sneak 7y agohttps://s.sneak.berlin/@sneak/104054875133518950 https://s.sneak.berlin/@sneak/104054875133518950 I want a YT speed setting for “constant WPM” based on their autocaption timestamp metadata.
- aspenmayer 7y agoThat’s an amazingly obvious idea whose time has come. Who do we @ to get this on YouTube already?
- BrandonM 7y agoOvercast does roughly that for podcasts and it works great.
- aspenmayer 7y agoIs there a similar feature in Google Podcasts? I know that they are transcribing them automatically in the same way captions are generated for YouTube videos. I think it mostly blew over but I remember Google caught some flak for that in the same way they did for Google Books v Authors Guild fiasco. This is why we can’t have nice things.
- three_seagrass 7y agoDon't let your dreams be dreams. YouTube data API allows downloading captions, and the iframe API allows setting playback speed. You could build a site that inputs YouTube video URLs + WPM and then outputs the video playing at the desired WPM.
- egman_ekki 7y ago> https://www.descript.com/ https://www.descript.com/ and Lyrebird prevent people from making copies of voices that arent their own how do they check which voice is your own?
- basch 7y agoIf I understand correctly, you train it live. So unless you knew what script they were going to give you, and had the words prerecorded in order, it would be hard to do. Sort of like a captcha with a timer? I wonder if they also have signatures for famous voices they can blacklist.
- Dramatize 7y agoWe just posted a new post about Lyrebird alternatives now that they've been bought: https://blog.replicastudios.com/lyrebird-alternatives/ https://blog.replicastudios.com/lyrebird-alternatives/
