If it is absolutely obsolete, why is it still present on Apple's laptops?
- throwphoton 6y ago> If it is absolutely obsolete, why is it still present on Apple's laptops? I suspect Apple sometimes recognizes when they make a wrong turn. They'll never put the headphone jack back in the phone, or remove the touchbar from the laptop, because they would lose face if they did so. But they'll avoid compounding mistakes; as such the headphone jack remains on the laptop.
- kayoone 6y agoMacbooks are actually used by Audio professionals, so it makes sense to keep it there for a while. A phone is a consumption device and 99% of customers are probably fine with using bluetooth or the adapter.
- BillinghamJ 6y agoThey removed 3D Touch from the iPhone.
- dx034 6y agoOr Laptops have just much more available space. They don't have to compromise as much for an extra port at a laptop. But an extra port at a phone changes design considerations a lot.
- asdff 6y agoThere were tech writers who were cutting open their iphone 7s and shoving in their own headphone jack. Space is there. This was a business decision to sell more airpods.
- downerending 6y agoIMO, phones are already too small. The only way my SE works for me is having a nice thick case.
- SamReidHughes 6y agoLaptops are huge.
- saagarjha 6y agoTechnically it’s called Force Touch on their laptops. I think they have a little more depth margin on those devices.
