- TehCorwiz 7y agoI like that talk. Probably one of my favorites.
- hrdwdmrbl 7y agoThe owner is also a totally great guy
- redivysoft 7y agoYep, he took the time to answer questions from highschool me more than a decade ago and he was very friendly. I'm glad everyone else seems to have had positive interactions with him also.
- textfiles 7y agoLet's not assume everyone had a great time with me because that will fall apart very quickly. I appreciate when someone young or curious reaches out to me for context or questions because I did that throughout my life and I always appreciated when it was rewarded with a response. I try to be the person I always hoped was on the other side.
- 1996 7y agoStill, I like that spirit!
- EvanAnderson 7y agoAny Jason Scott talk is totally worth it. Irongeek, on YouTube, has Jason's DerbyCon talks archived (and likely some others too).
- Eremotherium 7y agoHe also gave us the brilliant BBS: The Documentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dddbe9OuJLU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dddbe9OuJLU GET LAMP: The Text Adventure Documentary (shot in 1080p) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRhbcDzbGSU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRhbcDzbGSU and (apart from his many talks) his podcast "Jason Scott talks his way out of it" which is just gem after gem of documented tech ephemera. https://textfiles.libsyn.com/ https://textfiles.libsyn.com/ It's baffingly hard to quantify how many people he (and all the other great people at the Internet Archive) has affected with his bullheaded conservation efforts.

- ethagnawl 7y agoJason Scott's podcast _Jason Scott Talks His Way Out of It_ is also endlessly interesting, inspirational, entertaining and touching. - nickthemagicman 7y agoHaha this isn't going to be some cissp bulls*. So great.
- aantix 7y agoFinally, a talk that isn't PC sanitized..
- msla 7y agoHe's also the guy who goatse'd MySpace: Initial post: http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/989 http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/989 Post about goatse: http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/1011 http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/1011 More: http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/1012 http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/1012 http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/1127 http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/1127 Moral: HOTLINKING BAD
- ringshall 7y agoHe says in the second article you link that he doesn’t think hotlinking is bad per se, especially when it’s done in support of knowledge and education. I think the moral is rather that hotlinking is dangerous.
- Firehawke 7y agoI remember reading these over ten years ago; probably posted on Slashdot back when that place had only started its nosedive. Still pretty funny ~15 years later.
