I switched to Android when I realized a few years back I could buy a whole phone that did everything I need for the price of an iPhone screen replacement.
My $150 Moto G7 is much slower but I don't really notice. It has a taller screen that's better for reading websites, emails, books, etc, a headphone jack, and SD storage for my music/videos.
So as far as "commoditized pocket computers" go, welcome to the party, I guess.
- scarface74 7y agoI definitely notice the difference in performance between a 2018 Moto G and a 2015 iPhone 6s. The iPhone 6s was much faster.
- CoolGuySteve 7y ago"notice" is a bad word for it, I should say I don't care. The browser scrolls, the apps launch, the keyboard types, all that happens at a reasonable pace. I don't notice frustration with the performance.
- __blockcipher__ 7y agoIt sounds like those tradeoffs make sense for your use case. Personally I find any slowness whatsoever in a phone to be unacceptable because it’s such a fundamental computing device (for me) and because I’m not a highly price sensitive consumer if I’m getting a level of performance that makes it worth it to me. In other words, the market is working as intended, allowing consumers to optimize for the factors that matter to them :)
