There are plenty of examples. The Linux kernel development process comes to mind. I suspect that most knowledgeable developers rolled their eyes when Agile was "invented". It's a mish mash of a lot of things that were already obvious at the time and some weird kool-aid like pair programming. And just one more in a long line of consultant enrichment schemes.
