I understand permanence is hard to achieve, but why do you claim it correlates with for-profit as opposed to nonprofit motivations? A subjective look at the world suggests that institutions which have preserved artifacts (including digital artifacts) over a long time scale have been likelier to be non-profit than for-profit.
