There's always a time/cost trade-off to be made in any engineering endeavor and I'm willing to accept some longer processing times for hobby usage until it becomes more serious I should be investing a lot more into it. I have a 3900x I use mostly for video encoding, K8S, local dev, and games if I need more power. And honestly, if I want to run stuff super fast in a hurry and am willing to pay for EPYC and Threadripper kinds of hardware, I'm running it all into Terraform and Packer and shipping it off to a cloud to crunch it for a whole $30 in an hour or two. It's just that along the way I'd spend thousands screwing up on silly problems.
