If I had to guess, the AV1 encoding is being done server-side. AFAIK no phone has a hardware AV1 encoder (or decoder for that matter). The bitrate is low enough that a software decoder is likely fast enough.
- topkeks 6y agoIt's not done server-side. The calls are end to end encrypted.
- ajconway 6y agoThey specifically state that Duo is end-to-end encrypted.
- battery_cowboy 6y agoDuo claims to be e2e encrypted, so they can't do that, theoretically.
