For how long? You can't keep society inside for a long period of time. It just won't work.
Couple weeks? Sure.
3 months? Barely, it seems.
1 year? No. It just won't work.
(I don't think we'll get to that point, but I think that the point stands: quarantine is a short term fix.)
- SerLava 6y agoWithout doing a real bailout of normal people, no we can't go more than a few months. If we're going to demand grocery store workers get buried in the ground for the sake of keeping things running, we can afford to radically shift the distribution of wealth toward the people we're literally condeming.
- thelean12 6y agoYou're using quite inflammatory language here that's distracting from your points. Calling the US a failed state, saying we're demanding workers be buried in the ground, etc. If you want to discuss actual policy, then do so. I'm not interested in following platitudes.
- SerLava 6y agoInflammatory language is appropriate to describe an ongoing attempt to end the lives of millions of people. It's necessary to point out that we live in a failed state because some of the solutions being presented are assuming some kind of capability which we have not come close to demonstrating. It looks like we're going to have to kill quite a few poor people is fundamentally inflammatory, even when you act like you're discussing the best fruit flavor. These are people being killed, right now, all around you, for no fucking reason. These are people whose lives have marginally MORE value than yours, we're talking about snuffing them out.
- lbeltrame 6y ago> 1 year? No. It just won't work. Some experts in Italy have called for quarantines up to 24 months until there is a vaccine. The net effect this has done is just to scare the population, at this point. I hope we don't have to go that route.
