My coding career started in 1987. For the last 3 years, and for the first time in my career, I've been working on a product that has a team of professional designers, ie proper graphic designers, artists, "empathetic" people, etc. And for the first time in my career, I've looked at the product and thought "Wtf! that's a thing of beauty ". As a result I'm confident that users will actually, you know, like our product, not just tolerate it. So, IME, having confidence in what you're producing has a material benefit on the motivation of the developers to get their end of things right too.
