  The parent comment is another situation on HN where (as I write this, anyway) a straightforward, relevant and constructive statement (it's just a link to a news article about exactly this subject) gets downvoted heavily for, as far as I can see, purely partisan reasons. And I only ever see this happen in one direction, politically. Can we really, as a community, not link to the New York Times without it being "controversial" and unwanted?
