I think it's at least reasonable to concede that it's possible that Apple does more good in empowering not-so-tech-savvy-individuals than it would in donating money to charities. As a case-in-point, my girlfriend and I recently gave her old MacBook to my grandmother. Ever since - she's been more engaged with facebook than anyone my age - and it shows in her mood and general well being. I can't help but glow every time I get off a FaceTime call with her!
