What I wrote about was about Egyptian hieroglyphs. I can only repeat that they did not _evolve_ into alphabetic writing. The Semitic alphabet was a fork; alphabetic use by the Egyptians themselves was very marginal. The Mayan system AFAIK was a mixed logo-syllabic one to begin with.
