I've done this myself recently, and it's a worthwhile experience if you have the patience for it. If the short treatise in the OP interests you, I would suggest the book 'Foundations of Mechanical Accuracy', PDF easily available though I won't link here. I can also recommend the bible of hand scraping, 'Machine Tool Reconditioning and Applications of Hand Scraping' otherwise known as the Connelley Book.
