So many questions...
Are young women better leaders than old women? Than young men? Old men? Is it truly causation? What prompted you to make this association? Any other countries make the list that don't have young women leaders?
Gender and age probably do matter in lots of things. Usually when I hear it brought up, it's either to grind an axe, an act of defense, or a hidden agenda. Almost universally lacking objective truth seeking.
I also dislike the current US president, but IMO calling him out and then promoting the idea that young women are best just polarizes people... In fact if I was a Trump 50-center that's exactly what I would do to try and alienate as many people as I could under the guise of a "lefty socialist".
- lpah4all 7y agoMale leaders have been acting like complete bastards since time immemorial. I'd say we have a very, very small sample size of female leaders to judge from, so why not promote some ladies to give it a try? They can't be worse than the men. As to age, off the top of my head, I'd say that how much time they have already spent within the system would keep them from thinking about fundamental change. I'd cite Merkel having been a PhD Chemist in her previous life for her success by giving her an analytical approach instead of a purely political approach. And let's not also discount that women the world over are oft treated very badly by their society's patriarchy. Oppressed people can be some of the best leaders because of their vehement opposition to brutalities of every kind. Think Nelson Mandela. Really what we need, regardless, are true public servants and not someone beholden to just one team. I don't care what gender they are or identify with or that of their BFF(s). They just need to have integrity and care and concern for our most vulnerable residents. Perhaps women are better suited to such service; perhaps not. All I know is that at this point I'm willing to give it a try, especially with such brilliantly impressive thinkers such as AOC. I was sad that Elizabeth Warren was eliminated from contention. She was -- by far -- the most intelligent and competant candidate, imo.
- eggsmediumrare 7y agoAgreed on Warren, and I'd love to see President AOC someday. The only reason male leaders have been bastards since time immemorial is because, as you rightly point out, they were mostly men. Most good leaders have also been men. I agree women should be given fair opportunity at leadership though.
- petra 7y agoI wonder: Sure, the sample size on female leaders is very small. But what about the sample size of female bosses ? Are female bosses significantly better than male bosses ?
- eternalscreams 7y agoI'm surprised that you think that being in middle or upper management is the same as running a business. Do you have anything to support that equivalence?
- jshevek 7y ago>you think that being in middle or upper management is the same as running a business The parent comment made no such assertion.
- eternalscreams 7y agoMy brain farted, I meant 'country' not 'business'. Ugh.
