Here is my take on part of the problem. https://github.com/Guy-Shaw/libmmv https://github.com/Guy-Shaw/pmmv The original perl-rename has the expressive power, but not the safety features. mmv has been around since 1990 and, in my opinion, has always been under-appreciated, but it could use some modernization.
