In Defense of Zoom: China Fud, Performance Tradeoff, Open Source
- bitxbitxbitcoin 7y ago> To be clear, I understand that non-Chinese tech companies must form some kind of joint-ventures with local Chinese entities in order to operate. The AWS in China is not exactly the same as the AWS in the US, but it’s also not the same as a homegrown Chinese cloud provider; it exists in the middle, a nuance that is all but lost. When it comes to the ability of the Chinese government to access said servers without the knowledge or consent of the companies involved, is there actually a middle ground? Sure the non Chinese companies in China will put up a bigger fight but I was under the impression that whatever servers are there (even if it's AWS or Telstra in name) are subject to meddling by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology at the data center level. Happy to be proven wrong.
