A more interesting and intellectually honest article would flesh this out a bit, maybe with actual evidence.

Should they also "flesh out" that the death rate in hospitals is higher than in your home, even if they don't have the time adequately control for "people only being in the hospital when they're sick or nearly fatal to begin with"? Working in a grocery store rather than staying at home is, intuitively, less safe. If they're not able to carefully control for the risk factors, they're doing a disservice to report that figure by itself. And it's a non-trivial amount of work to do so such controls, simply to appease those who repeat over-clever contrarian factoids like that one.
