- throwaway6734 7y agowhy?
- umanwizard 7y agoIn US culture, using "swear words" is still taboo for many people. (I'm not saying it's right or wrong).
- keiferski 7y agoIn most of the world, swear words are considered unprofessional or rude.
- cosmodisk 7y agoFrom my own anecdotal experience, the ones that are very upset because of a few swear words at work are usually the most cunning, back stabbing, and dishonest people I've ever met.YMMV
- keiferski 7y agoUh, I guess. I personally just find it distasteful and inappropriate. A bit like openly discussing the private particulars of your personal life.
- pen2l 7y agoWhat do you mean in US culture? Avoiding vulgar language isn't a phenomenon unique to US. If I was in France I wouldn't exactly be saying <putain de merde> around my family, if I was in India I wouldn't be saying <bhain chod, nai kaam karta>, etc.
- floren 7y agoThe HN meme about "puritan America" is strong.
- umanwizard 7y agoOk, well, I'm not from France or India so I was only commenting about what I know.
- _bxg1 7y agoUS culture varies widely. My parents are fairly conservative so I probably wouldn't send it to them, but I'd happily send it to any of my friends and maybe even my coworkers
- kenjackson 7y agoIf the words weren’t taboo or offensive then they wouldn’t be swear words. There reason he doesn’t say “Stuck at Darn home” isn’t because of the aesthetics of the sounds or because of any real difference in definition except to the extent that Darn doesn’t carry the social “baggage”, which is purely a function of it being taboo or offensive. The use of curse words almost completely derives their value from that fact, even when uttered under your breath after hitting your finger with a hammer.
- tracker1 7y agoSounds like a bunch of humbug to me.
- alufers 7y agoWell, not everyone is okay with profanity, some people may be upset by it.
- pc86 7y ago"Hi Grandma! Check this out..."
- ohashi 7y agoI was going to swear in an apology response but that's maybe not appropriate. Being stuck alone at home for weeks now isn't great. The name does capture how I feel about this, sorry if you can't share it with friends and family. I personally don't find generic swearing that big a problem but understand if you do.
- OJFord 7y agoYou could consider getting stuckathome.com too (it's an obvious one to squat anyway) and doing anything except redirection (from that one to the current, anyway) to show the same content. Or also not, it's yours and it's free, whatever. :)
- ohashi 7y agoYeah I'm not monetizing anything at the moment, I just got bored and started collecting stuff. No intention of spending money on the better domain. I found this one available and it struck a chord with me, and here we are.
- christiansakai 7y agoNot me but my families and friends do.
- rovr138 7y agoDon't share it.
