Shakti seems to be the new flavor

  The creator of kdb+, the k language, and the q-sql DSL sold his share of Kxsystems (company that makes kdb+) to start a new venture called "Shakti" with a new version of his "k" language. Kdb+ is still around and developing, so I'd say they're forked at this point.

  I've taken a look at that as well. It seems to be heavily in development at the moment, though I'm keeping my eye on it.

  When a q like language is implemented for Shakti, I'll definitely switch. I personally find q a lot more comprehensible than k.
