The address bar is awful but, most importantly, it breaks my keyboard workflow. When I press Cmd+L, I'd expect the focus to go to the address bar and the whole url to be selected (like it is with any other software). Now, Firefox doesn't do this any more. The focus goes to the address bar, but the text is not selected. I have to select it myself. It's really badly designed, ugly and not useful.
Unfortunately, as a longtime Firefox user, I have to admit that Chrome is the best browser. Cleanly designed and fast, it's just a better experience. Too bad it's run by an advertisement company. This is really the only reason I'll stick to Firefox: because I believe in the importance of a free web and I dislike Google. But really, it's not because of any merit of Firefox.
- tlamponi 7y agoThis works just still fine here..
- stronglikedan 7y agoHere too.
- jsjddbbwj 7y agoTry Brave. Once you disable the crypto bullshit, which is like a couple clicks, it is a good browser.
- The_Colonel 7y agoIt's just chrome skin so not really advancing the free web thing ...
- nanna 7y agoAt least on my Linux build, Ctrl-L still highlights the entire URL. Considered whether you've just come into a bug?
- thekingshorses 7y agoCTRL + L works as expected on Windows 10. It still selects and highlights the entire URL.
- magicalhippo 7y agoALT+D too FWIW.
- iamricks 7y agoWorks fine
- crocodiletears 7y agoI'll have to disagree with you on it being cleanly designed. Mozilla would have to do a lot to fuck ne over before I switches off of FF, simply because Chrome looks like a Fisher Price toy. That's a deeply subjective complaint, though.
- KozmoNau7 7y agoIt is very likely that you have customized about:config settings and/or some combination of extensions that cause this. Going to about:config specifically warns you about breakage when you access it. Try a fresh profile and see if it still happens.
- noahtallen 7y agoIn the Firefox dev version, cmd+L focuses the address bar and selects all the text on macOS. Maybe it's a bug that has been fixed in newer builds.
