I also can't read the article, but am an ecologist who has thought a lot about this issue. Last month my colleague Ethan (also an ecologist) wrote a very honest piece for High Country News about developing an opinion about this issue, worth sharing here for certain: https://www.hcn.org/issues/52.3/south-wolves-colorado-throws-wolves-to-the-vote https://www.hcn.org/issues/52.3/south-wolves-colorado-throws...
- lazerpants 7y agoI didn't know about High Country News, looks like a great publication. Thanks.
- tony_cannistra 7y agosure thing; it is!
- fiftyfifty 7y agoIt seems like the ballot issue in Colorado (where I live) is a little too late, the wolves are already here. At this point rather than spend the money to re-introduce more wolves to Colorado we need to start funds to protect the ones we already have. If the wolves succeed in Colorado like they did in Wyoming then we could have over 100 wolves in Colorado in the next 20 years. There is still a very vocal outcry against wolves in the agricultural community in this state. If there is not some kind of plan put in place to reimburse ranchers for losses caused by wolves then the ranchers are going to quietly deal with problem on their own and that's not good for anyone.
