IS&T shouldn’t be part of Apple. It’s culture and engineering talent aren’t representative of core engineering.
- chillacy 7y agoIn the old adage that "you get what you pay for", the internal tools at Apple aren't quite the best as a result. The Radar tool I recall was pretty horrible in particular.
- Austin_Conlon 7y agoDoes IS&T also build the developer-facing Feedback Assistant?
- saagarjha 7y agoNo, there's another team for that.
- astrange 7y agoRadar is the world's best bug tracker. The sole reason for this is that the originator gets to close bugs, not the fixer.
- taormina 7y agoHey, Apple still hired them. Apple is chosing to dilute its core engineering brand. It's not like an end user can tell if a "real engineer" wrote the shitty webpage that's currently giving them grief.
- saagarjha 7y agoConsumers don't interact with IS&T projects.
- fapjacks 7y agoThis is wrong and like saying "people that eat sausage don't interact with the contractor at the sausage factory hiring mechanics that don't know any better when fixing the machines and regularly spill machine oil into the meat". Dealing with shit that rolls downhill is a form of interaction.
- saagarjha 7y agoNo, it's right in the context of the comment I was replying to, which had customers interacting with IS&T webpages. Internal apps are decidedly mediocre for the employees who use them but there are many more impactful things that would affect customers than that.
- jatone 7y agothe apple employee who is struggling to meet my needs because of that shitty app. it directly impacts customers by making it take longer to solve my issue.
- jedieaston 7y agoAccording to the article they serve Apple Retail, so every time the Genius messes around with the iPad for 10 minutes to check me in just so I can drop my phone off for a new battery, that’s a consumer dealing with IS&T.
