Ask HN: Feedback on an idea (OurBIGsong)

Hi guys, I've had an idea floating around my head for a couple of days that i wanted to share and get some feedback on. What i would like to know is whether or not you think its 'feasible'. And what you would do to improve upon it. I am actually already working on it. But ive gotten a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to potential user feedback. This is the smartest entrepreneurial community i know. So it is natural for me to also come here for some advice. I appeciate any and all contribution and look forward to hearing your thoughts. Here's the idea: OurBIGsong.Com A song that allows a couple to get a song personalized for them by independent musicians for specific functions like, wedding, reunions, anniversaries, etc. The core concept is that we research the people (via their own input and their social online profiles) and give the musicians enough information to create a unique composition based on this information.

It's a fun and unique concept, but I think the general public greatly undervalues what it takes to write, record, and produce an even half-decent song. That's going to make it very difficult for you to present a price that makes sense to people. (What sort of price did you envision?) Also, this is obviously not very scalable. I think the target market is tiny, though, so that is probably not a big deal.

  Because it is a very small market i would price it at about $1,000 for a song. So it would be a niche product, but also a luxury one.

    Sounds about right. I think it will be very hard to track down the market for this, though. Unlike commissioned visual art, these songs probably won't appreciate in value nor can they be hung out ad infinitum for the world to see. Good luck!
