Working on getting someone replaced seems a very unhealthy and unprofessional kind of conflict resolution.

  That's actually true. But life is too short to deal with terrible people many hours a week if you can afford not to. Perhaps the best professional and healthy solution is to find a new job if the conflict isn't resolved in good time.
