I’d argue that having the internet limited to a handful of gatekeepers, all of whom are sustained by ad dollars, is probably far more responsible for ruining the internet. I find it hard to believe that in a world where Google and Facebook’s users were its customers and not its product, it wouldn’t be able to find a way to combat SEO effectively, especially considering how they are basically hoarding the majority of the smartest people in the world.
