A lot of these books, while they may be useful, have a reputation that exceeds their contents. Reminds me of "cult classics" in film.
Also, I can't help but wonder how many people are recommending books they haven't read.
- lacker 16y agoSorry to get statistical, but if you filter for the highest-reputation items of any category X, then most of them are likely to have a reputation that exceeds their actual value, due to reversion to the mean. So this shouldn't surprise you or discourage you from reading these books.
