    How about waiting for actual, robust evidence that it actually works? Trump isn’t shilling HCQ because he thinks it’ll help COVID-19 victims. He’s shilling HCQ because he thinks it’ll help his reelection chances, by distracting from a weak and shambolic Federal response. It would be nice to think that FDA is approving it because it now has that evidence, but as it doesn’t (because that research hasn’t been published yet) it’s fair to assume it’s due to political pressure coming from above. It’s bad enough COVID is killing tens of thousands without self-serving hucksters like Didier Raoult and Alex Jones compounding that death toll. Even worse when it’s highly placed political hucksters like a Trump White House abusing safeguard instituions meant to protect citizens (Frances Kelsey, anyone?) for their own personal agenda.

      How long do you want to wait while people are dying? It has been in use since 1947 to treat malaria, and so we already really understand the risks. Given the urgent nature of the disease, why would you not try it, even if there is a small chance it could end up saving someone's life? And do you really believe that Trump, with his approval rating already at an all time high is worried about defeating Biden, who is showing signs of dementia?
