esp this week, vernor vinge's 'fire upon the deep'
it perfectly captures the weird information environment surrounding a global crisis
(people communicating via letter, people closer & farther from the crisis having different skews and perspectives and beliefs)
and the house of cards effects around collapsing civilizations
- nnlsoccer 7y agoHis other book A Deepness in the Sky is amazing as well
- AlexCoventry 7y agoThose two books of his, and in addition his earlier books The Peace War and Marooned in Real Time, have all had a huge influence on me.
- amanaplanacanal 7y agoI enjoyed Marooned in Real Time so much. A great murder mystery set in an anarcho-libertarian far future society.
