Invoking Cunningham's Law: Appeal to Mundanity: I've supported dozens of systems over the last 15 years, here are my opinions: The best documentation is the implementation. The second best documentation is any documentation at all. The better you reveal your implementation, the better your documentation. If you want to improve your second best documentation, knock yourself out. Concentrate on documenting interfaces and the location of your primary documentation (the source code, settings, etc) If you want to bikeshed your second best documentation, I'm afraid I'm just going to laugh at you.
