Ask HN: How do you deal with feature creep? Is "feature complete" a myth?
Do you know of a software product in use that is essentially feature complete? That is, it has no new features planned but people continue to use the product?
The advice to grow product features incrementally at a careful pace seems to be widely advocated, but doesn't seem to match reality.
It seems quite hard to resist adding more and more features to a product. This might be because of demands from customers, or from fear that your competitors may overtake you. Or maybe it's simply a feeling that more features equals evolution or progress.
Have you every resisted feature creep in your product or service? Were you still able to retain or attract customers?
Have you ever told demanding customers requesting a feature that no, you won't be implementing a feature and how did they take it?
