It’s probably not even about the cash itself but being in close contact with the cashier as you hand it over. They are doing that the whole day and we’ve been told many times to stand at least a meter away from each other. Also card/contactless payments are quicker than cash, and cutting seconds off transactions adds up and reduces the amount of time people have to queue and stay in the store.
