You do understand that you're replying to the founder of D, right? Walter put his whole life into D. Can we please show a little compassion for someone's life's work?
- optimaton 7y agoI don’t think they do. The response clearly is reasonable, but no reasonable person would say that on someone’s face. So I don’t think Marta _moreno really knew about Walter
- WalterBright 7y ago> Walter put his whole life into D. Can we please show a little compassion for someone's life's work? While I appreciate the kind words, I am not looking for compassion. D must stand entirely on its own merits. D has already succeeded quite spectacularly: 1. we have a wonderful D community which has been utterly indispensible 2. D is part of the Gnu Compiler Collection 3. D has been accepted into the HOPL conference, which is quite an honor A couple things we are particularly proud of: 4. D has been used by companies to make a LOT of money. They've told me that D is their secret weapon. :-) 5. contributing to the D community has enabled many people to advance into well paying and high status careers 6. D innovations regularly find their way into other languages
- glouwbug 7y agoGodspeed, Walter. Been a fan since 2010 as I also come from a mechanical engineering background while being fascinated by programming. TDPL sits next to KNR on my shelf
