Wait, what?! What ever gave you the idea that there is a dearth of fiber in Europe or that there are only DCs in Ireland or the Netherlands?

- alecco 7y agoConectivity and performance issues. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_data_centers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_data_centers https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/ https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/ I was way off with CloudFlare. Netflix might be better by using Akamai and others.
- jgrahamc 7y agoYou're still talking nonsense. Netflix has built their own CDN. This is one of their core competencies. https://openconnect.netflix.com/en_gb/ https://openconnect.netflix.com/en_gb/
- q3k 7y agoYou're also way off with Google. GGC has cache boxen in nearly all large ISPs that are willing to cooperate, and they also openly peer with anyone willing to at large IXes, not only in the metros they have DCs at. For instance, they peer with us, a nobody (Warsaw Hackerspace, AS204880) over EPIX in Warsaw, announcing most of their prefixes to us there. In addition, they have a GGC node in EPIX.
- dylz 7y agoI can confirm this as another nobody, we have under 100 customer WISP, have peering sessions with Google and Cloudflare, and Netflix is visible on the routeservers anyway.
- acdha 7y agoYour own link shows 5 full AWS regions – with two more on the way – in Europe and that's not even the right link for this conversation since what you really care about for last-mile connectivity is less where the servers are running and more where the CDN edge locations are: https://aws.amazon.com/cloudfront/features/ https://aws.amazon.com/cloudfront/features/
