I don’t see a problem with the loans. They get paid back with interest. I see no problem loaning the airlines money. Grants, however, is something else entirely. If they are in so much trouble they need a literal bailout then they should be nationalized. They can be re-privatized later, after a decade of drama and red tape, but nationalization should be the consequence that’s faced until bad actors can become responsible.
