It's totally the smart thing to do. Github needs a ton of cloud compute with github actions, Azure powers it. Github brings a very strong brand that developers love, which gives Microsoft a good rep amongst technical folks. This is as good as Google acquiring Youtube because Youtube needs an insane amount bandwidth and it was a perfect fit for Google's infrastructure and ad platform. It's just sad to see Google not playing the Developers game well.
