- johnchristopher 7y agoIn Belgium some even held lockdown parties before the ban went into effect. Some people crossed borders to go shopping this weekend because only pharmacies and super markets were open. Those who aren't taking it seriously yet are really visible. My manager's manager changed her Facebook's profile pic with a #stayhome slogan but she expects us to come tomorrow monday morning. So, yes, we need a strong government in those trying times.
- alexbanks 7y agoIt would be beneficial for the government to define how it was going to support the businesses it was forcing to close, given forcing them to close has the potential to put them out of business.
- johnchristopher 7y agoWhy would they ? I was surprised President Macron said something along those lines in his latest TV declaration.
- HaloZero 7y agoI would be a bit more sympathetic here. The people who are running these business are also thinking about their employees and others. It's a hard pill to swallow, it's not purely motivated out of greed. You lose your health insurance if you get fired. You can't pay rent. I do think you're right though the only way this will work in the US is by forced Order.
- generalpass 7y agoIf you use the government to force people to stay home, when they economically cannot sustain it, what happens?
- threatofrain 7y agoSuicide or destitution maybe.
- generalpass 7y ago> Suicide or destitution maybe. Well, that's a relief. I was concerned they might leave their homes!
- j88439h84 7y agoThey could be paid to close.
- sidlls 7y agoThey could be, but since we live in a capitalist dystopia it's unlikely.
- eikenberry 7y agoNot enough to make a difference. The government can't afford it.
- stevieCards 7y agoIf the government taxed the rich and corporations it could afford it.
- grecy 7y agoOh I don't know. They could stop spending trillions on wars around the world and spend it on looking after their own citizens instead.
