Bullshit. When the CDC has 500k tests, by all means, regulate away. To prohibit using even potentially working technology when the alternative is nothing is barbaric.
- robomartin 7y agoBullshit squared. If the tests give you false results you are going to OVERWHELM the medical system with people who should have tested negative. As it is our tests only have about 1% false positive rate and tests being used in other parts of the world seem to be in the 3% range. Please, don't have these crazy ideas if you don't know what you are talking about. You clearly don't. A bad test isn't a substitute for a good test. Simple example: I give you a bad test, determine you have cancer and cart you right into a weeks long immune system destroying chemotherapy treatment. And then we discover the test was junk. Even worse: We test EVERYONE with this junk cancer test and give EVERYONE chemotherapy, blow up our hospitals, bankrupt the medical system and everyone ends-up half dead and immuno-compromised. Brilliant. No, traceability and quality are supremely important, particularly when you are dealing with millions of potential patients.
- coenhyde 7y agoWe're not talking about cancer tests here. We're in a pandemic. The value we would get out of 500k tests for covid-19 with a 3% error rate is far superior to 500 tests with an error rate of 1%. Give me the 500k tests please!
- jessaustin 7y agoNo arithmetic please; we're panicking!
- robomartin 7y agoAgain, sorry, but I have developed a low tolerance for the nonsense that going around out there with regards to COVID-19. Nobody seems interested (or able to) fire-up a spreadsheet and do some math. If you have half a million people using shit masks and shit tests we will overwhelm our medical facilities. Do you have ANY idea what's going on in Italy right now. It's so sad. Doctors are having to choose who they let die. And no, we are not necessarily talking about COVID-19 patients. They are so overwhelmed that if a patient shows up with a stroke or other conditions they are having to choose between patients and let some die. This is the danger. It is F---ING INSANE to propose that we test everyone with untreaceable kits and walk around with untreacable masks. If you want to see millions of people die, go for it. The public-private collaboration the White House Coronavirus Team put together is going to have MILLIONS of high quality tests we can trace and rely on within days. 3M is spinning up US-based mask manufacturing operations throughout the country and will meet critical demand. Sorry, we don't need more Chinese shit. The virus was enough.
- davidcuddeback 7y ago> Sorry, we don't need more Chinese shit. The virus was enough. Xenophobia is not okay.
- robomartin 7y agoAnd accusing everyone of xenophobia is despicable. Where did the virus come from? China. Where does "Chinese shit" come from? China. I didn't say "French shit" or "Swiss shit". I said "Chinese shit". Which, I don't know, I think that, by definition, comes from CHINA. Wow, so "Chinese shit" isn't made in China then? It must be made in Australia and we call it "Chinese shit" 'cause we like the Aussies? Brilliant. But, even though it is made in Australia, if you call it "Chinese shit" you are xenophobic. Heavy stuff dude. Or are you going to tell me that when you buy a piece of crap product on Amazon it is far more likely to come from France, Germany, the UK, Switzerland than China? C'mon. Stop using insults to stomp down reality. People who say stuff like that have never even tried to manufacture anything in China. Some of us have DECADES of experience with China and know very well where things can lead without oversight. What, nobody remembers the TOYS PAINTED WITH LEAD PAINT?!!! Or, how about the DOG FOOD FROM CHINA THAT WAS CONTAMINATED???? Are you f-ing kidding me? There's a list like that miles long. Get real. Hey, if you have EVIDENCE the virus came from somewhere else, say, the moon or mars, I'm all ears. I'm sure lots of people would like to see that evidence. If you have EVIDENCE that "Chinese shit" like iPhone chargers that burn down your house, toys painted with lead paint, contaminated dog food, etc. do not come from China, again, I am sure many people would be interested in your amazing investigative research. Until then...stop using words you obviously don't know how to apply.
