This is basically treating GoL as a one-way function for which you want to search for inputs that produce a desired output. Sounds just like cryptocurrency. Is there a GoL coin yet? I know there are tons of searches for novel structures but couldn't find a crypto in my quick searching. Recently just discovered Cure Coin which is a crypto based on folding@home units of work. So that made me wonder about it for GoL too...
